”And why should I leave? This is my room too,” Mercy said, crossing her arms over her chest. Of course she was going to be stubborn. Her excitement over seeing John had lasted all of five seconds after she’d signed him in as a guest in the building.
Sighing, John tossed his duffel bag onto his sister’s bed, not even caring that she had things on top of it. ”Really?” she said, a hint of annoyance in her voice.
”What? I’m going to need Kat’s bed tonight. I can’t have it all cluttered now, can I?” he asked her, putting his hands on his hips and standing in front of her, as if he could intimidate her. She just raised her chin in defiance.
”Look, I’ll give you fifty bucks if you can find somewhere else to sleep tonight.”
”One hundred,” she countered.
”Seventy-five.”
His sister arched a brow at him, waiting.
”Fine, one hundred.” He dug around in his pocket for his wallet, pulling out a few twenties that Mercy promptly snatched out of his hand.
”Fine, I’ll just go spend the night with Keiran,” she said, a devilish look in her eyes.
”Wait, NO…” John said, not liking the idea of his little sister going off to spend the night with her boyfriend. She was already throwing an already packed backpack over her shoulder though. The bitch had already been planning on leaving, damn her. She’d tricked him into paying her!
”See ya…” She said, heading out the door.
”I meant a girl! You should stay with a girl tonight!” The door shut behind her, his protests falling on deaf ears. Sometimes sisters were just incorrigible.
Alone in the dorm room that Kat and Mercy shared now, John looked around, tempted to start poking through their things. He was nosy sometimes; it was in his nature. If you told him not to press a button, he was going to press it.
It was growing later in the afternoon and, according to his sister, Kat would be done her classes for the day soon enough. He’d been able to score a weekend leave just to visit his girlfriend and he wanted to squeeze in every possible second that he could with her. His graduation was in a few short weeks, but being away from Kat was always just so awful. He wasn’t sure how they would cope once he was being deployed overseas.
Looking around at the things the girls had in their room, John saw a framed picture of Keiran and Mercy. Picking it up, he immediately grabbed a marker from one of the desks and drew a handlebar mustache over each of their faces before setting it back on Mercy’s desk. John chuckled malevolently, wondering how long it would take his sister to notice.
Pulling his iPad from his duffel bag, John jumped into Kat’s bed trying to shake off his eagerness. He couldn’t deny that he was craving her… her voice, her touch, the sensation of sliding inside of her. She was like a drug to him… a drug he intended to marry, if she would have him.
Turning on his iPad, he opened up Safari, bringing up the potential engagement rings that he’d spent the last few weeks looking at. He needed to find the perfect ring for her and he already knew exactly when he was going to ask her. She’d already insisted that she would be there for his graduation and he was going to do it that day. If there was one thing John knew he wanted out of life, it was that he wanted to marry Katerina Montgomery and start a family with her.
At the sound of approaching footsteps, the marine in training quickly locked his iPad and tossed it onto Mercy’s bed before laying back down and placing one of his hands behind his head as he stared up at the ceiling, John held onto a stuffed animal he’d given her a while back in the other. Lying there, he listened to the sound of a key in the lock, followed by the twisting of the doorknob.
”You know, you would think that people would be more careful with their smoking habits around here,” he said to her as she opened the door. ”I can smell weed all up and down the hallway…”
